In these tough economic times it can be difficult to spare a few dollars to backup your most important files online. Making regular backups to CD/DVD or an external hard drive can keep the majority of your files safe. For your newest files or for your most important files you can use one of these online backup services that offer free space. You won’t be able to backup your entire photo, video and music collection but your latest term papers, reports and important files should fit and allow you to keep them safe.

Some services offer extra space for referring others so you can earn more free space. SpiderOak and SugarSync are two of the better programs that come to mind.
A quick overview of all the services I have listed I found the following companies offering free space for people to backup. I have not had a chance to test each of these services yet so how reliable they are and easy to use I do not know. Feel free to test them out and let me know what you think of them.

Dropbox did you miss. They offer 2 Gb free space.
Yes correct Dropbox offers 2gb of free space, it is a great service I use it myself, but it is more of an online storage service and not a backup service. I wrote a review over at my online storage website. Dropbox Review
I have been looking for something for w while and tried a few things. Has anyone tried NetCDP? It is pretty impressive. but you have to sign up with S3 yourself.
I have not had a chance to try NetCDP yet. Just heard about them a little while ago. Have a few other things on the go. Hopefully I can take a look in a little while. If you try them let us know how it goes.
I have been using it for a few days and it is probably the easiest I have seen and works better than I thought. Their web site needs more work but the software is a lot better than how their web site looks.
All you need to do is setup with S3 account and is sync your changes almost in real time. There is no UI, you use Windows explorer to browse and restore the files like local files.
I strongly recommend it. I have not paid yet, the free version seems to work fine with me.

Has anyone used any of these services to backup a Windows based phone and THEN transfer the information to an Android phone? Seems that the SugarSync may be the answer…
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Sorry have not tried that. SugarSync might help, but some apps are read only, just giving you access to your files. Let us know what you discover.
